Keeping the Weight Off with Tea

The most ubiquitous new year’s resolutions are some variations of losing weight, getting healthy, or exercising more. While we aren’t huge fans of new year’s resolutions, we do love every effort people make toward bettering their lives. If you want to change though, why not start now? Why wait until the new year?

The biggest artifact of weight loss good intentions can be found at your local gym. In January the gym is packed like the church at Christmas or Easter, but come June that number has been reduced to half, if not more. This generally drives the consistent gym rats crazy because they have seen the pattern one too many times. The gym equipment used to be available, but they now are occupied with one-hit wonders posting their short-lived efforts on social.

If you want to lose weight and keep that weight off throughout the new year, here are a few tips that will help.

  1. Start Now! Don’t wait until the new year. Don’t wait until tomorrow. In the words of Apollo Creed, “There is no tomorrow!” Get started on your goal today.
  2. Find your Why. If the reason for why you are doing something isn’t great enough, when the hard times come, and they will come, you will most likely quit.
  3. Stay Motivated! In the words of Zig Ziglar, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”
  4. Be Unreasonable! To achieve your goal you will need to be seen as crazy by people who don’t have the same vision. Being unreasonable or obsessed with your goals isn’t a bad thing; it is vital to your success.
  5. Drink more Tea. Don’t say you didn’t see that one coming. What you put into your body is one of the most important elements of your weight loss journey. Tea not only won’t contribute to your weight gain, but it will help you lose weight as well.

How Can Drinking More Tea Help?

Well, to start, you are going to need to know a few things. First of all, tea can only be a support to an already well-balanced diet of proteins, carbs, and fats. If you consume a deficit of calories with a balance of macro-nutrients, you will lose weight.

If you incorporate exercise and resistant training into your weight loss plan, you will become healthier and make the process easier on yourself. Cardio exercise can improve your heart health and weight lifting will increase your muscle strength improving your ability to function physically in the world. Muscles also require more energy, therefore, burning more calories. Lifting weight in the gym isn’t just for bodybuilders.

So, if you understand this first, then you will better understand that tea can be a complimentary supplement to these more critical aspects of weight loss. Drinking tea to lose weight before you have incorporated these other aspects is like shaving your legs to be a faster swimmer before you have even stepped foot into a pool.

Here is how tea can be a complimentary supplement to an already healthy lifestyle.

Boosts your Metabolism

Tea, especially green tea, is touted to be high in antioxidants, and for good reason. Tea has these flavonoids called catechins, a special kind of antioxidant that is known to boost the body’s metabolic processes. These catechins help the body digest food and break down fats quicker. They will help you keep the weight off by preventing the inevitable slowdown of the metabolism that’s common in people who have recently lost weight. Mean right? You lose weight and the body works against you slowing down your metabolism. Don’t worry, tea will help.

Increases Energy

We all love caffeine. It is the most widely excepted and used drug in the world. Tea has these naturally occurring energy-boosting compounds including caffeine that have been shown to increase the body’s ability to lose weight. Yerba mate is an herbal tea that has the most robust caffeine content of them all. While caffeine doesn’t help you burn more calories, it can help shift the body’s focus to burning more fat. Who wouldn’t want their hard work in the gym to work more efficiently? On top of all of that, caffeine can also help suppress the appetite which generally helps us avoid all of our mindless snacking.

Balances Hormones

When your hormones are all over the place, it can be difficult to lose weight and this imbalance only gets worse as you age. Men, next time you want to call a woman hormonal, y’all better check yourself. Men can have major hormonal imbalances too. Herbal teas especially Rooibos tea can help. They reduce stress hormones responsible for triggering hunger and storing fat. Some studies have also shown black tea helps to bring cortisol levels back down to normal. Increased levels of cortisol make it hard for your cells to absorb insulin thereby increasing the chances of weight gain.

So, in our humble opinion, it would be crazy not to incorporate tea into your diet as part of your weight loss journey. It not only works for you towards your goals but it can also be a healthy replacement for some old unhealthy habits. Which tea you decide to drink is up to you, just make sure it’s a tea you like. No sense in forcing something you dislike. For a wide variety of weight loss teas check out the Fusion Teas ‘Shop By Benefit’ tab and look for weight loss teas.
