Honeybush Tea: Beneficial & Flavorful

Honeybush tea is from, Cape Hope, South Africa and is naturally caffeine free and packed with advantageous minerals. It is a satisfying solution to keep your body well hydrated. This tea can be boiled for long periods to enhance strength and flavor.

Honeybush is a unique plant grown in Southern Africa growing from the Southern to Eastern Cape, with some types growing in areas of the Cederberg Mountain tops. Although there are approximately 23 varieties of Honeybush, that grow, only two are used commercially. These types are Cyclopia Intermedia, which grows in the higher mountainous regions of the Eastern Cape; Cyclopia subternata is found in the Southern Cape lowlands. South Africa produces about 200 tons of this specific tea per year.

Honeybush tea enhances in flavor the more time you allow it to brew. It brews up a warm reddish-brown or a pinky red color and has a somewhat spicy flavor with a sweet aftertaste. This tea tastes delicious hot or iced, with or without milk and sweetener. It also has a deeper flavor than Rooibos tea but with a tint of honey flavor.

Honeybush Tea Benefits

There are numerous advantages of consuming Honeybush tea. Honeybush naturally contains iron, potassium, calcium, copper, zinc, and magnesium. Research demonstrates it may relieve menopausal symptoms in females, and promote milk production in nursing mothers due to phytoestrogens. Other benefits from the tea range from preventing cancerous tumors, repairing sun damage, and aiding in digestion. It is also used to help alleviate digestive and heart problems which are aggravated by other stimulants like caffeine. Honeybush is commonly considered because of its anti-viral and anti-oxidant properties. These teas aid in bone growth rather than doing damage to it such as sodas do.

Honeybush contains pinitol, which is a modified sugar similar to inositol. In animal studies it has appeared to lower blood-sugar. Pinitol is also an expectorant and used to treat coughs (take it up a notch by adding some homemade Lemon Honey).

Honeybush tea can also be used as a base for sauces and marinades, and/or enhance natural flavors when combined with any vegetable stew or casserole. With its delicious flavor and many uses & benefits, Honeybush tea is a must have in any household.
